Closing the chapter...Our last day.

Image
The day that no one wanted came and gave our last memories. After the spectacular GLitter night where all of the participants gave their best to win "The most Glitterous of them all", the morning activities reminded us our goals.  For a start we showed each team the result of yesterday's trip to Corfu town and how we engaged and with the locals and gained experience of how much active people are about recycling, reuse and reduce of waste. After lunch the best time of the program came, "The secret friend", where all the participants had to guess who made their days better with simple motivating note and for the end the gift to remember them. Confused, happy and emotional feelings were the protagonist but everyone is leaving now with more than what they brought. See you all in another story                                                    ...

Parakalo Team - 22/04/2023

When the time finally came for greek gods to descend down to the activity room, we were warmly greeted by Zeus, Hermes, Poseidon, and Dyonisus. They presented Greece - magnificent land of temples, the birthplace of democracy, and the homeland of malakas. The audience was surprised with colorful video presentation of greek lands, language quiz, wild dances and mouth watering true greek tzatziki. Later, the party took an unexpected turn and turned in to the most unforgettable dance party.

Day in Corfu

Image
Yesterday's intercultural night was in charge of the Greek group. They danced traditional Greek dances and we played a game of guessing and pronouncing correctly some Greek words. Finally we were offered traditional Greek food such as feta, orzu, yogurt or calvas. Today we went to the city of Corfu, first we made a stop in Podikonisi and visited the church. In the center of Corfu we did an activity with the local people. To attract their attention we danced all together to the song of Sexy Girl.  We did a survey and we wanted to know their opinion about the energy waste. Anna and Eleana ordered Souvlaki for everything, it was delicious! To end the day we had free time until 18:00 to visit the city. It was amazing!

The Greek cultural night was really nice. We learned about the culture and traditions of Greece. The music, dance, art, and dishes. We has appetizers such as tzatziki, feta cheese, and olives. And also traditional drinks. There were also performances, including traditional Greek music and dancing. We also played a game to try to pronnunce greek words.  Overall we had the opportunity to experience the warmth and hospitality of Greek culture. The trip to Corfu was really interesting as well. We enjoyed a walk in the Church and a delicious lunch with Souvlaki. The local engagement activity was also successful despite that some groups struggled to find participants. We also enjoyed free time to explore Corfu and all the different landmarks in the city. It was a very fun day.

Cultural night  🇬🇷 Yesterday night was Greece’s time to shine and they didn’t disappoint us at all: we had music, a fun quiz, great foods, lots of ouzo & tsipuro. The boys had d costumes and made us feel like in the ancient times.  It was so great to find more things about the host country and to celebrate it all together. We ended the night with a fun Greek-themed-music party  💃🏼🇬🇷

The second cultural night was hosted by Lituania and Italy, the first one presented some advertising videos about interesting facts about the country, culture and habits from their people and amazed us with some snacks that none have experienced before. They also made a Kahoot and showed some traditional dances that everyone enjoyed.  Italy started with the Kahoot then moved to a very interactive games where we had to guess the meaning of their typical gestures. They also provided some traditional dances as the Pizzica before moving to, obviously, the wonderful italian food. They had a muslim partecipant that was ending ramadan and celebrated with us by bring baclava for everyone, then the Italians brought typical cheese, salami and wine and even some sweets. Finally there was partying and all of us had a really great time.

They did an amazing job in both entertaining us and serving us some amazing goods!  We enjoyed some really great videos about Lithuania and had the chance to dance some sweet traditional dances in pairs of two! They served some really interesting foods, mostly sweets!  Then Italy did an amazing Kahoot that made us laugh and feel good while learning new stuff about the country and it’s history. Then, we enjoyed the home-made wine, some yummy pesto pasta and the best cheese ever: pecorino 😮‍💨🧀 The most energetic dance we’ve seen so far is the one that Asllan and Sara did: pizzica 💃🏼

First cultural night 🇲🇹🇷🇴

The first cultural night signed the beginning of an interesting and full of fun adventure and informations about both Malta and Romania. They both made some challenging (in a good way) Kahoots and we had the chance to compete against each other for the victory. After the videos - an important and extremely funny mention is Malta’s video about potatoes and how much they love they.  We danced a few Romanian dances and had the chance to enjoy food from both countries - Romania, also brought thru traditional and very strong liquor: palinca 🤩 After the both presentations, we ended the night with a big party! 🥳 (sorry we couldn’t find the photos)

Art and reduce

Image
Today we talked about reducing. After lunch we divided into three groups to work on waste reduction through art. The first group had to make an artistic photo with the waste produced during these days of Youth Exchange. Below you can see their final photo in which they make a critique of the large amount of garbage we produce. The second group had the task of making a sculpture with the waste. As a final work they made a human bust and named it Anna. Does it remind you of anyone? The last group developed an installation using water bottles, beer cans and caps. The installation consisted in listening to the sound of these objects hanging in a tree near the sea. The installation was intended to criticize the noise pollution caused by the noise of plastic and at the same time the excess of waste produced by humans. The intercultural night last night was in charge of Lithuania and Italy. We ate great things like Anthouse or Tuscan wine produced by the family of Francesco, one of the Italia...

Italian workshop and culture night 🇱🇹 🇮🇹

Image
The workshop involved making incense sticks and face masks using honey and cinnamon as key ingredients. We were given a brief introduction to the benefits of honey and cinnamon for skin and well-being. We have been provided with different types of raw materials like honey, cinnamon powder, charcoal, toothpicks and other natural ingredients to prepare the incense and face masks. They were guided through the process of mixing the ingredients in the right proportions to create the final products. We tried the masks and got yellow faces that was difficult to wash. We haven’t burnt the incense yet. Overall, the activity offered a unique experience for participants to explore the benefits of natural ingredients and learn creative skills in making homemade cosmetics. The cultural night was really fun, we danced and ate nice food and everyone was really excited.

Kalimera Team - Treasure Hunt Adventure

Image
The Kavos Treasure Hunt     Today we started the day with an unexpected surprise - there was a treasure waiting for us at the beach. But, we had to work for it and before we realised it, the competiton has started.  We had to go to the city center, which was a good way to finally explore the island and meet the locals - we took many pictures with diffrent kind of people - workers, for example. Anna and Eleana had a funny way to makes us sing some songs in the middle of the city, but we did it!  The treasure hunt ended at the beach, where we all met and had one last contest. Not only a contest, but also an activity that was benefical for the environment - we did a big cleainn up and unsurprisingly we found lots of trash. The only surpring thing we found was the toilet, thanks to Ingwer and Asllan.  It was a great way to start the day!  ☀️

Beach Cleaning 🏖️

Image
"Cleaning beach" activity involved removing trash, debris, and other waste materials from the beach, and restoring the beach's natural beauty and cleanliness. Participants in the activity were wearing gloves and carrying trash bags to collect trash and debris scattered throughout the beach, including plastic wrappers, bottles, cans, and other non-biodegradable waste. Once gathered, the trash was taken to a garbage can. The cleaning beach activity is essential for keeping the beach clean and safe for visitors, preserving marine life, and maintaining the health of the environment. The items were not recycled as the island doesn’t have developed recycling system, also items were contaminated.
